ச:இலங்கை உதவி - இங்கிலாந்து தற்காலிகமாக ரத்து செய்கிறது

இலங்கைக்கான 1.5 மில்லியன் பவுண்ட் நிதி உதவியை இங்கிலாந்து அரசு தற்காலிகமாக நிறுத்திவைத்துள்ளது. இலங்கை அரசின் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கெதிரான செயல்களில் மனித உரிமை மீறல் அதிகமாயிருப்பதால் நிலமை முன்னேறும்வரை இந்த நிதி உதவி வழங்கப்படாது என அறிவிப்பு சொல்கிறது.

நேற்று இந்த அறிவிப்பை வெளியிட்ட இலங்கைக்கான இங்கிலாந்தின் வெளியுறவுத்துறை அமைச்சர் விடுதலைப் புலிகளை கண்டித்து புலிகள் தொடர்ந்து ஐரோப்ப்பாவில் தடைசெய்யப்பட்ட இயக்கமாக இருக்கும் என்றார். மேலும் இலங்கையில் கலவர நிலைக்கு புலிகள் மட்டுமே காரணம் அல்ல எனவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

2004 சுனாமியை அடுத்து மொத்தம் 3 மில்லியன் பவுண்ட்களை இங்கிலாந்து வழங்க முன்வந்து ஏற்கனவே 1.5 மில்லியன்களை வழங்கியுள்ளது.

“The LTTE [Tamil Tigers] is not the only source of violence in Sri Lanka,” said Mr Howells. “Civilians in government-controlled areas regularly fall victim to brutal attacks by paramilitary groups, often acting with apparent immunity.”

“We believe that that sent a clear message to the Sri Lankan Government about our concerns,” he told the Commons. “The outstanding payment will be made only when consultations have concluded with the Sri Lankan Government. Those consultations will, in particular, involve discussions about the human rights situation in Sri Lanka.”

Since the ceasefire broke down in 2005 more than 4,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands displaced.
