Court: fake licence holder cannot claim insurance
In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has held that a person possessing a fake motor driving licence, if involved in an accident, would not be entitled to any motor vehicle insurance claim from the insurer.

The renewal cannot take away the effect of the person holding the fake licence, a Bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and S. H. Kapadia held, while allowing a batch of appeals filed by the National Insurance Company Limited.

The ruling assumes significance as the insurance company had challenged scores of judgments delivered by various high courts, motor accident tribunals and consumer fora which had ordered compensation to vehicle owners even if they were in possession of fake licences.
